Occidental College has settled with two nonprofit organizations focused on combating antisemitism over a federal Office for Civil Rights complaint that the campus was a hostile environment for Jewish and Israeli students in the weeks and months following Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel.

Auditors told the Board of Trustees last week that the historically Black land-grant university would have a $46 million deficit by the end of the year without financial help, NewsChannel5 reported.
“There’s just a lot of sub-baccalaureate and sub-associate degree credentials out there” of different lengths and costs, called by a variety of names and offered by different kinds of providers, making it “hard to decipher any sort of outcomes or similarities,” she said.

When these tools are paired with advanced machine learning algorithms and behavioral analytics, “universities can continuously monitor network traffic for anomalies, isolate compromised systems in real time and automatically apply patches to vulnerable endpoints.”
“The cost of expanding Pell Grant eligibility—about $1,800 per student in this study—should be considered against the evidence on the economic benefits of short and very short-term programs.”
The University of San Diego, a private, Catholic institution in California, also received the largest pledge in its history last weekend: $75 million from Darlene Marcos Shiley, a philanthropist and chair emerita of USD’s Board of Trustees.
The Tuesday court order follows another issued in July requiring state officials to take a temporary step back from rolling out the law in preparation for its Jan. 1, 2025, implementation date.
